  • Butler is located in the historic Butler-Tarkington neighborhood 5 miles from downtown Indianapolis.

  • It is a 295-acre park-like campus less than 20 miles from the Indianapolis airport.

  • Butler was founded by Ovid Butler, a lawyer and abolitionist, back in 1885 as a liberal arts college focused on helping students achieve personal and professional growth.

  • Students come from all over the country and world to attend Butler–44 states and 51 countries are represented on campus!

  • The university is divided into six colleges focused on Business, Communications, Education, Liberal Arts, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Art.

  • There are over 60 majors to choose from, as well as 8 pre-professional programs.

  • The Placement Rate, or percentage of graduates working full-time, in graduate school, or in a gap year program, for the class of 2012 was 94%!

  • Butler offers over 150 student activities with 94% of students involved.

  • 19 NCAA Division 1 sports are offered at Butler–go Bulldogs!


  • Experiential learning and real world experiences are highly emphasized in all of Butler’s programs.

  • Undergraduates in the College of Business have the opportunity to work alongside faculty at the Butler Business Consulting Group–a fully functioning consulting firm!

  • Students majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders have provided free speech, language, and hearing screenings to over 6,000 school children since 2000.

  • The College of Education partnered with Indianapolis public schools to open a magnet laboratory school in 2011.  All of the teachers at the school are COE graduates and around 100 COE students each year observe or student teach there!

  • COE offers short-term study abroad trips and semester-long student teaching experiences abroad; a recent student traveled to Tasmania!

  • Pharmacy students at Butler work with medical students from the Indiana University College of Medicine to run a health clinic for low-income Indianapolis residents.  The pharmacy is completely run by Butler students and serves around 30 patients each week.
