At our College Planning Night for Juniors back in February, we mentioned that several College Fairs would be happening this spring. Attending a college fair is a great opportunity for both students and parents to learn about schools and talk with representatives. These events can be crowded, so some students have found it helpful to have cards pre-printed with information to drop off with schools you want to keep in touch with. Include your name, address, email, high school, year of graduation, and any possible majors you may be interested in (optional).
NEACAC (New England Association for College Admissions Counseling) sponsors several of these fairs. Participants at each event vary, so to see colleges that are planning on attending each one, visit www.neacac.org, click on “College Fairs,” then “Spring Fair Schedule.” Local fairs include:
NEACAC Fair at Stonehill – 5/16/16 – 6:30pm – 8:30pm
NEACAC Fair at Assumption – 5/17/16 – 6pm – 8pm
NEACAC Fair at Merrimack – 5/24/16 – 6:30pm – 8:30pm
NACAC (National Association for College Admissions Counseling) sponsors large fairs across the country. They hold the Boston fair each spring, which attracts hundreds of colleges. This year’s fair is on Sunday, May 22nd from 2pm to 5pm at the Boston Convention Center. For a list of colleges attending, visit www.nacacnet.org and click on “College Fairs,” then “Attend a College Fair Near You.” You are encouraged to register for this event!
Another fair that may be of interest to you is the Colleges that Change Lives (CTCL) event in Boston. CTCL is a non-profit organization that grew out of a book of the same name. The book strives to change the way that our society has come to think about college and our obsession with “elite” colleges. It’s a great organization with amazing member colleges. The Boston CTCL fair will be on May 14th at 10am at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. The event will open with a 30 minute presentation on the college search process, followed immediately by a college fair. To learn more about CTCL, visit http://www.ctcl.org.
College fairs aren’t just for juniors! All are welcome!
